SPRING INGREDIENTS AT BLYTHSWOOD SQUARE

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestGoogle+

We can’t help getting excited about the signs of Spring at Blythswood Square, Glasgow. The first sight of pretty little crocuses and snowdrops around the city really gets us in the mood to start thinking Winter is over, so what’s next.

‘Spring is an amazing season. After the dull Winter months, lots of bright colours are present during the Spring. It’s like new life is sprouting and lots of new energy goes into creating the dishes.’ Martin Thliveros, Executive Head Chef, Blythswood Square. It’s no secret that when it comes to taste, eating flavoursome seasonal food with the best crunch and colour is the way to go. Scotland produces a huge variety of foods throughout the year, with Spring being no exception.

The new dishes that will appear on the menus at Restaurant at Blythswood Square will enjoy flavours and textures from peas, broad beans, watercress, asparagus, leeks, purple sprouting broccoli, parsnips and cauliflower. Not forgetting sea trout, which is amazing and available from April. And of course a well known favourite seasonal food, Scottish lamb.

HOME GROWN
This year we are super excited as some of our ingredients will be home grown, thanks to Fresh Direct. They are proud to be a non-corporate, family owned business that haven’t forgotten their roots and still represent the same passion for quality, service and values that they were built on – way back in 1966 in their modest beginnings as a mobile greengrocer operating out of an Austin 3-tonne van.

This exclusive partnership, enables Blythswood Square to be the one of the first luxury hotel and restaurants in Scotland, to take their produce from our own plot of land directly to our customers plate.

The land is based just outside Glasgow and our first crops will be planted by the kitchen team in mid March. There is much excitement amongst the team as to what should be planted first. We are likely to start with lots of under the soil vegetables such as carrots, various beets, celeriac and parsnips.

We look forward to posting videos and pictures of our progress over the coming months along with recipes of some of the special dishes that will appear on the Market Menu and the A La Carte Menu.

I am sure there will be lots of trial and error topped with a huge heap of fun and passion along the way!

Introducing a new product and treatment range, available exclusively at Spa at Blythswood Square…

As Summer starts to fade and we head towards Autumn, our skin needs a little boost.

It is a well known fact that seaweed contains a high content of vitamins, minerals, trace elements and natural antioxidants that are considered essential for maintaining healthy, youthful and glowing skin. This natural marine wonder helps slow the aging skin process while protecting it from the harsh environmental elements in the air and water. It firms, tones and hydrates and is suitable for all skin types.

The name ishga is derived from the Gaelic word for water. The Hebrides has some of the cleanest waters in the world. This is where ishga sustainably hand harvest the seaweed to produce their 100% organic ingredient for their skincare range.

Combining this hand harvested seaweed with natural spring water, the resulting mineral rich extract is then blended with other carefully selected organic ingredients and essential oils to create the skin care range. Cucumber extract, macadamia, jojoba, aloe vera and lemon peel are some of the many natural ingredients used to compliment the extract.

The bespoke ishga products have been used to create a range of luxurious spa treatments which are only available at Spa at Blythswood Square. These include massage, facial, scrubs and body wraps. Treatments start from £25.00 per person, for the very unique ishga Scottish Seaweed Bath Experience.

This very special bath contains fresh hand harvested seaweed from the Hebridean coast, rich in vitamins, minerals and anti cellulite properties. The Seaweed Bath speeds up the metabolism, cleanses the intestine and helps to eliminate toxins from the body.

The Spa at Blythswood Square covers 10,000 square feet and features the exclusive Blythswood Thermal Experience – a seven stage journey of alternating temperature experiences to soothe, relax and detoxify the body prior to treatments.

The Spa also features nine spacious and tranquil treatment rooms including a double suite where guests can enjoy a full range of face, body and holistic treatments, a decadent dark pool where guests can relax in warm waters, a rhassoul, a choice of wet and dry relaxation rooms and a spa lounge.

Blythswood Square is situated in the heart of Glasgow on one of the city’s green spaces. The hotel has 100 bedrooms including four spacious suites and a top floor penthouse. It also has a restaurant, bars, a private screening room and event facilities.

Blythswood Square is one of Scotland’s most environmentally-friendly hotels through the incorporation of renewable energy technologies to achieve reduced carbon emissions.

5 STAR GROOMING IN GLASGOW

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestGoogle+

According to The Good Spa Guide, what men like is classy but understated treatments that are E.A.S.Y, that’s Effective, Active, Sensuous and Youthful.

In Glasgow you don’t get more classy than the Luxury spa at the city’s only AA 5 star hotel Blythswood Square.

Whether you or your partner are suffering with aches and pains of spending too much time hunched over a computer, feel you’ve neglected yourself recently or simply just want to relax, the spacious spa at Blythswood Square offers a wide range of treatments and spa experiences to make you feel a whole lot better.

Whilst Blythswood Square treatments are perfect for both men and women, the spa has created two results oriented treatments for men concentrating on releasing stress, tension and targeting aches and pains.

ila Men’s Vital Energy Full Body Massage – 60 minutes – £80.00
A revitalising treatment that works by stimulating and balancing the natural energy within you through marma massage, lymphatic drainage and the application of Scottish herb poultices. This body massage combines various ancient healing techniques to harness and restore the energy in your body.

ila Men’s Vital Energy Body Scrub – 60 minutes – £80.00
This is an invigorating and revitalising energy-boosting scrub that helps clear the mind and prepare you for busy days ahead.

If you want to look as good as you now feel, then book in for some essential grooming with a natural manicure and, if you are not taking advantage of the thermal experiences, you can whisk away those unsightly hairs with some ‘gentle’ waxing.

In between treatments, take the waters as the Romans did with a dip in the 12 metre vitality pool with massage fountains and test your swimming skills against the endless pool jets. For something more relaxing, float away in the adjoining Dark Pool. Follow this with a tour of the spa’s thermal and ice experience suite to relax both the body and mind before you finish with an invigorating cold drench shower.

After you’ve treated yourself to such an E.A.S.Y day you can enjoy a delicious lunch in the Spa Café or for something even more memorable and ‘classy’, opt for an overnight spa break when you’ll be able to take advantage of the hotel’s lively cocktail bar and popular restaurant.

Blythswood Square spa days start from £125 per person and spa breaks from £260 per room for two people.

BLYTHSWOOD SQUARE UPDATE

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestGoogle+

The former Royal Scottish Automobile Club, one of Glasgow’s most iconic buildings has been transformed into a luxurious five star hotel. Blythswood Square opens its doors to the public today, Tuesday 10th November.

The £25 million redevelopment of the landmark property has been carried out by Scotland’s stylish luxury boutique hotel group,The Town House Collection. Peter Taylor, Chairman of the group, said: ‘Our aim was to capture the glamour of a bygone era whilst showcasing the latest in designer styling as befits this vibrant and sociable city. We are absolutely delighted with the outcome.

“It has been our privilege to have the opportunity to restore this landmark Glasgow property into a contemporary hotel, retaining the unique features and personality for which it became famous.

‘Like all projects of this nature the plan tends to change and evolve once it gets started. We are opening around 12 months later than originally planned with the first of a three phase opening which will run into the New Year.

‘Since first taking ownership of the building we have enjoyed the support of many individuals and organisations in Glasgow including Scott Taylor and his team at the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau and Cllr Steve Purcell and his colleagues on the Planning Committee in addition to retail outlets and other hoteliers’

‘It’s a magnificent building and we look forward to welcoming our first guests.”

Blythswood Square overlooks one of Glasgow’s only remaining green spaces. The hotel will boast 100 bedrooms including six spacious suites and an enticing top floor penthouse complete with rooftop hot tub. It will also house Glasgow’s first luxury spa offering indigenous Scottish treatments, a restaurant, bars, a private screening room and event facilities.

Blythswood Square is, without doubt, one of Scotland’s most environmentally-friendly hotels through the incorporation of renewable energy technologies to achieve reduced carbon emissions.

Scottish-based Chard Construction has been working closely with the design team – Ron Galloway Associates. Philip Thomson Associates and Dunwoody Associates – to deliver this landmark project.

The hotel interior, created by Jim Hamilton of Glasgow-based Graven Images, retains its fine architectural features whilst sporting contemporary bespoke furniture by modus, flooring and textiles. This includes the use of Harris Tweed which will be used across chairs, curtains and light fittings. This is the first time this textile has been used for interiors since the QE2 was commissioned.

Formerly the Royal Scottish Automobile Club’s ballroom, the hotel’s main 120-cover restaurant and cocktail bar is impressive with its high ceilings and grand dimensions. However, the atmosphere will be fun and relaxed, a place to enjoy delicious seasonally chosen and locally sourced food and inventive cocktails with friends under the attention of award winning Executive Head Chef, Dan Hall.

The Spa at Blythswood Square will open early in 2010 and will champion the latest in cutting edge design offering a number of unique facilities and treatments specially created for the spa.

Guests can indulge in bespoke natural treatments using Scotch Thistle extract, Scottish seaweed and a selection of treatments from the luxurious Anne Semonin and ila brands.

The spa will be home to Glasgow’s only Seaweed Bath chamber filled with healing organic seaweed sourced from the Hebrides. The marble Heat Suite will offer a range of hot and cold experiences including a large hydrotherapy pool. The 11m relaxation pool will lead to the decadent Dark Pool where guests can float under a crystal chandelier.

This outstanding spa will also house a Rasul, relaxation rooms, 9 spacious treatment rooms including a double suite, all offering the highest level of comfort and warmth.

Additional highlights within Blythswood Square include the stunning marble bathrooms from Italy by IQ Quadro of Livorno, a 35 metre Salon featuring two original fire places, columns and cornicing with stunning views over Blythswood Square and a private Screening Room, the first in a Scottish hotel, which will be furnished in over 40 different designs of Harris Tweed.

There is also the RSAC’s original ‘Rally Bar‘ named after the Monte Carlo Rally which started from Blythswood Square in 1955. Over the years many high profile racing drivers frequented the bar and it grew a wide reaching and auspicious reputation. The Rally Bar is being restored to its former glory and is available to guests booking the hotel’s event suites.

Scott Taylor, Chief Executive – Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: “We are delighted to welcome home one of Scotland most celebrated and modest entrepreneurs, who has helped shape the hotel industry beyond recognition.

“Peter Taylor’s decision to invest in Scotland’s largest and most vibrant city speaks volumes about where Glasgow is heading, and its competitive position on the global stage.

Blythswood Square is unique and will become a landmark trophy hotel for Glasgow, and one of the city’s newest style icons.”

Blythswood Square is owned by The Town House Collection
