Cocktail Bar at Blythswood Square rated one of the best three bars in the world!

The cocktail bar at Blythswood Square, Glasgow’s glamorous 5 star hotel, has now been officially rated as one of the best three bars in the world! A recent review by Class Magazine awarded the bar 5/5 and only two other bars in the world, a bar in Russia and Milk & Honey in Manhatten have been deemed worthy of 5/5 before.

Mal Spence, Head Bartender at Blythswood Square says “It is an honour to be rated 5/5 by Class Magazine. This is a great achievement for the loyal and dedicated team we have here at Blythswood Square, we aim to give our customers an unforgettable experience and it is fantastic that our efforts have been rewarded in this way.”

Class Magazine has reviewed and rated thousands of bars all over the world, from New York to Tokyo, from Russia to Singapore. Class has been an Industry bible for nearly twenty years and Simon Difford, its owner and editor in chief, is one of the most respected and well known people in the global bartending community, his opinion is widely regarded and his influence spreads globally, where he judges in International Cocktail Competitions and Awards.

The bar at Blythswood Square was honoured with 3 nominations at the yearly Class Awards this year, twice for UK’s Best Hotel Bar and once for UK’s Best Cocktail Menu, which they won in October.

BLYTHSWOOD SQUARE COVETS COCKTAIL COUTURE – 25,000 SOLD!

The Town House Collection’s newest hotel Blythswood Square, has sold a staggering 25,000 cocktails since opening its doors (and bar) to the public late last year! With an average of 92 cocktails sold per day, Glasgow is the UK’s new hot-spot for cultured cocktails.

Blythswood’s success lies in the team’s unsurpassed service skills and bespoke glassware, in addition to award-winning bartenders and exclusive, specialist processes such as hand pressed juices and hand-cut ice to order!

Ergonomics and precision are at the heart of the cocktails served, particularly since Mal Spence – Head Bartender – joined the team at Blythswood Square, bringing with him over 9 years experience in the Bar Industry. Additionally, senior bartenders Scott Ingram and Dean Evans received awards in the recent Caledonian Bartenders Cup which involved the creation of two specially themed cocktails, a neat tasting session, and a blind tasting challenge.

When cocktail hour strikes, you can be certain to find an original concoction at Bar at Blythswood Square, created using the finest ingredients including fresh, hand pressed juices to order, and ice hand-cut by the mixologists using ice picks:

The Salon Cocktail – A recreation of a cocktail from the early 1920′s in celebration of the former members club. Tanqueray Gin is mixed with pink grapefruit, lemon juice and dry vermouth and bitters.

The Duchess of Bedford – In celebration of the creator of the Afternoon Tea, the wonderful cucumber and rose botanicals of Hendrick’s Gin is combined with tincture of Earl Grey Tea, fresh lemon juice, maraschino and St. Germain elderflower liqueur. A floral, light and refreshing cocktail!

Santiago Strawberry Daisy – A variation on the famous daiquiri. Preserve is shaken with Elements 8 platinum rum, freshly squeezed lime juice, egg white and yellow chartreuse.

The Monte Carlo Rally – In honour of the Monte Carlo Rally of 1955, this creation is a special Negroni cocktail which we stir over hand frozen blocks of ice with a mix of Tanqueray Ten small batch gin, Antica formula vermouth and Aperol aperitivo.

Since Blythswood Square opened 8 months ago, this £25 million redevelopment project of the former Royal Scottish Automobile Club has been a resounding success. The vision was to create a truly iconic hotel which inspired with its original design and style, its hospitality, excellent dining and exemplary service. The Bar at Blythswood has certainly contributed to this, and recognition was given at the recent 7th annual Scottish Hotel Awards when James O’Donnell was awarded Food and Beverage Manager of the Year.

With the creation of a brand new cocktail list set to launch at Blythswood Square very soon, in addition to the CLASS Awards in the coming months, and SLTN Awards on 21st October, Glasgow’s hottest cocktail lounge is set to sell its 30,000th cocktail VERY soon!

Lorraine Kelly Launches Afternoon Tea at Blythswoood Square…

Traditional afternoon tea has returned to Blythswood Square in Glasgow with the arrival of The Salon within the city’s newest five star hotel.

Lorraine Kelly is amongst the first to enjoy the delicious treats served at the luxury Blythswood Square which has stunning views across one of Glasgow city centre’s last green spaces.

She said: “Afternoon tea is just so civilised. You can go along with your friends to celebrate a birthday or an engagement or have a mother and daughter day, but it doesn’t need to be a special occasion, you could just feel like giving yourself a well deserved treat.”

Creating the perfect afternoon tea menu is a real skill and Dan Hall, Executive Chef at Blythswood Square has created a simple but delectable afternoon tea menu. Small bite-sized sandwiches, home-made scones with jam and cakes which will make your mouth water are served on traditional cake stands together with a selection of leaf teas or freshly brewed coffees. For those who wish to spoil themselves even further, then a glass of champagne is a perfect accompaniment.

Blythswood Square opened its doors last November and has quickly established itself as one of the most popular venues in Glasgow for lunch, dinner, mouth watering cocktails and now afternoon tea.

Hans Rissmann, Managing Director of The Town House Collection and General Manager at Blythswood Square said: “We know that when Blythswood Square was the former Royal Scottish Automobile Club it developed a reputation for serving afternoon tea for everyone from business people to ladies taking a break from their shopping. Blythswood Square has a number of Afternoon Tea options including a cream tea priced at £9.50 per person, a traditional afternoon tea, priced at £20.00 per person and champagne afternoon tea at £30.00 per person. If you are really looking to treat yourself you can choose to have afternoon tea accompanied by free flowing vintage rosé champagne for £75.00 per person!
