5* Blythswood Square in Glasgow has won BEST HOTEL AWARD at the 2012 Scottish Thistle Awards.
Organised by VisitScotland, the Scottish Thistle Awards celebrate excellence and quality within the tourism industry. Now in their 20th year, they have undergone a major transformation and after extensive industry research, the awards have changed to include four new regional awards - Highlands and Islands, North East, South/Central East, South/Central West. The awards are widely recognised as the mark of excellence and professionalism across the industry, awarding businesses’ contributions to making Scotland a top visitor attraction.
Glasgow Business Awards – October 2012
Blythswood Square has won the Best Inward Investment category at the 2012 Glasgow Business Awards. The Award, organised by Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, recognises the business that has invested in Glasgow in the past three years and has made a significant contribution to the local economy. In an era when the environment and sustainability have become fundamental to any hotel build, the rescuing and recycling of one of Scotland’s landmark buildings into one of the UK’s top hotels which has brought tourism, corporate business and glamour to its city location have all combined to make Blythswood Square the ‘Best Performing Inward Investor.’
Catering in Scotland (CIS) Lifetime Excellence Award
Peter Taylor, owner and founder of The Town House Collection has received the CIS Lifetime Excellence Award. Of his award, he said: ‘The hotel industry is not all about bricks and mortar but very much about people - the team - and I am fortunate enough to have a great one! It is a great privilege for me to receive this CIS Lifetime Excellence Award however it is also a true reflection of the efforts of a strong and committed team over a great many years.’
Blythswood Square Thistle Award Regional Winners
The five star hotel has taken Regional Winner in the Best Hotel category while The Salon was awarded Regional Winner of the Best Cafe, Bar or Restaurant. Both will now go forward to the national final in November. Often referred to as the 'Tourism Oscars' the awards are organised by Visitscotland and are designed to discover and celebrate excellence and innovation by the Scottish tourism industry for visitors.

Peter Taylor, Chairman of Edinburgh-based hotel group The Townhouse Collection, has been named as an Ernst & Young Scotland Entrepreneur Of The Year finalist in recognition of the growth he has driven despite challenging economic conditions. Blythswood Square Named One of The Best Bars in the World!
The cocktail bar at Blythswood Square, Glasgow’s glamorous 5 star hotel, has now been officially rated as one of the best three bars in the world! A recent review by Class Magazine awarded the bar 5/5 and only two other bars in the world, a bar in Russia and Milk & Honey in Manhattan have been deemed worthy of 5/5 before.
Blythswood Square wins 'Best New UK Spa' at The SPA Traveller Awards 2011
Blythswood Square picked up this award when the SPA Traveller revealed the ultimate spa destinations around the world, voted for by their international readers in the inaugural SPA Traveller Awards.
Established as Scotland's foremost celebration of creative endeavour, and supported by Glasgow: Scotland with style, the Scottish Style Awards salute inspirational individuals and enterprises that enrich society through their distinguished activities in fashion, music, the arts, stage, screen and popular culture.
The Scottish licensed Trade and News Awards (Scotland's premier trade recognition programme) announced it's winners at a gala dinner at Glasgow's Hilton Hotel on Thursday November 3.
Blythswood Square named AA Hotel of the Year Scotland 2011.
First introduced in 1992, this award is the AA’s ultimate accolade for hotels in the UK. It is awarded to those that are recognised as being outstanding examples in their particular market. Entrants can be small, family-run hotels to the most ambitious commercial ventures and hotels of every size and style are considered.
About Blythswood Square, the judges said: ‘Lovingly restored by the present owners, this hotel has everything you would expect from a five star hotel. Throughout the bedrooms and the public areas décor and objet d’art reflect this aspect of the building’s history creating a focal and discussion point.’

Blythswood Square was recently awarded five star status from Visit Scotland.
‘Blythswood Square was the first move to Glasgow for The Town House Collection and we have received a warm welcome from everyone from other hoteliers to our guests, diners and those who join us in our cocktail bar each evening.”
The cocktail bar at Blythswood Square, has been awarded the Best Bar Menu at the prestigious CLASS awards in London. Blythswood Square was also nominated in the Best Hotel Bar category. The CLASS Awards, one of the signature events of London Cocktail Week, recognise the best that the UK’s contemporary bar industry has to offer.
On receiving the award, Mal Spence, Head Bartender at Blythswood Square said: “It is a real privilege to receive this award, particularly as we are still relatively young in the world of cocktail bars. It has been an incredible journey putting together our cocktail menu and we’re delighted it’s receiving such a warm response from both our customers and the industry.”

Spirits Bar of The Year - The Rally Bar at Blythswood Square
Scott Ingram who has been with the hotel since it opened last September, was named winner of the overall competition after he used his expertise to create two award winning cocktails using Scotland’s premium spirit brands anCnoc Highland Single Malt and Caorunn handcrafted small batch gin. Fellow bar tender, Dean Evans was placed third after facing strong competition from across the country.
