The Pegu Club Cocktail at Blythswood Square
In the 1920's, a members club existed in Rangoon called The Pegu Club...
Its sole purpose was to provide a recluse for gentleman of The Empire, an oasis from the hostile and unfamiliar surroundings in Burma during its colonisation.
Like all drinks from this period, its designed perfectly for the environment it was created in. Long, dry days and hot weather left the mouth dry and the palate bare. Forget about those long, blended fruit cocktails, they gave you brain-freeze, instead, grab these ingredients and enjoy the style and taste of a bygone era and the craft of a truly great drink.
37.5ml Gin
20ml Cointreau
2 dashes bitters
25ml fresh lime juice
Add ingredients to shaker, fill with ice ¾ full, shake hard for around ten seconds and double strain using a fine tea strainer into a chilled cocktail glass then smile.
