Created in the late 1800's at the Bellevue Stratford Hotel bar in Philadelphia, the drink was named after a gentlemen’s club that met there in the oak panelled lounge.
Now the name of a great bar in Brooklyn, its well worth a visit to sample the distinct style of the American cocktail.
50ml Gin
25ml Lemon Juice
20ml raspberry syrup
egg white
Pour ingredients into shaker, shake initially with out ice, add ice and shake hard for 10 seconds, strain into pre-chilled cocktail glass.
At Blythswood Square in Glasgow, we add a touch of sweet vermouth in the winter to add a bit of richness to this ambrosial tipple. Smile!
