Fruitmarket Gallery‘Edinburgh is fortunate to have a contemporary arts pace of national and international significance' Judges’ citation Prudential Award for the Arts Widely-recognised as one of Scotland’s leading contemporary art galleries, The Fruitmarket Gallery has an international profile of presenting an enlightened programme of national and international contemporary visual art of the highest quality. It brings the work of leading artists worldwide to Scotland, and exhibits the work of Scottish artists in an international context whilst engaging with contemporary issues. Along with an acclaimed contemporary culture bookshop and destination café, the gallery has become a haven for locals and international visitors with visitor figures dramatically increasing from 30,000 in 1992 to 159, 000 in 2002. The gallery conducts dynamic education and publishing programmes, regularly conducting artists’ talks, gallery tours, forums and seasonal workshops and art days for children and young people, and also producing artists’ books, in consultation with exhibiting artists, and exhibition catalogues. Over the past five years The Fruitmarket Gallery has exhibited major international figures such as Jeff Koons, Tracey Moffatt, Shirin Neshat, Yoko Ono, Gerhard Richter, Iki Smith, Hiroshi Sugimoto, James Turrell and Bill Viola.
