Community Mark
National CommunityMark is a new UK-wide standard, developed by Business in the Community, which recognises companies that are the best investors in their communities.
In 2008, The Town House Collection was one of 5 Scottish SMEs to have achieved the CommunityMark by working with Scottish Business in the Community.
Successful CommunityMark companies have passed a rigorous, independent assessment including scrutiny by their employees and community partners. In one year alone, the 21 CommunityMark companies invested almost £600 million in the community through employee time, funding and other contributions.
The Town House Company Case Study: NEAR - Working in partnership with Craigroyston Community High School and Broughton High School.
This is a best practice example of community involvement, strategic planning and integration. This project promotes access to productive and worthwhile jobs in the hospitality sector, increases the aspirations of young people and enables them to feel part of the wider Edinburgh community. Community Benefits include interview skills, apprentice opportunities which increase confidence and the development of skills and qualification of young people. This project benefits our business in terms of giving our workforce the opportunity to get involved and make a difference.
On being awarded the accreditation Peter Taylor OBE, Chairman of The Town House Company said "Receiving the CommunityMark is a great achievement and provides recognition for our employees. Our team volunteer to take part in a wide range of school activities to help raise the aspirations and skills of young people. The CommunityMark award is a milestone in our journey, which has seen us develop from working on a volunteer basis with local schools to a structured partnership with clear outcomes".
